Some people fall into their career. Ike Smith was born into his.
It started with a Texas Instruments TI-99 his father brought home when Ike was just a kid. No manual, no tutorials, no one to ask — just a boy, a cassette tape drive, and a burning curiosity to figure out how it all worked. He taught himself. Loaded programs. Saved them. Eventually learned to write his own in TI Basic.
Then came the IBM PCjr, the dog-eared computer magazines with pages of code to type in by hand, and a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator that ran at roughly one frame per second — and Ike thought it was the most incredible thing he'd ever seen.
For over 20 years, Ike has channeled that same hands-on, figure-it-out spirit into serving the homes and businesses of Lawton, Oklahoma. He didn't start American Geek Computers alone though — that was his wife's idea. She saw what he had, believed in it before he fully did, and gave him the courage to make it real. She still does.
Today AGC is built on the same foundation as that TI-99 moment — genuine love for technology, patience to explain it plainly, and the conviction that if you love what you do, it never really feels like work.
